Have a look at what we have been learning…
Platinum Jubilee 2022
We have completed a range of activities in our Curriculum Collapse week, including: writing a limerick, constructing a decoupage 3D artwork, learning a 1950s style dance, researching and presenting a timeline of the Queen’s reign, decorating cupcakes and making our own party decorations.
Red Nose Day 2022
We all had a fabulous time on Comic Relief this year dressed as our superheroes. We thoroughly enjoyed all the games that the School Council ran in the hall in the afternoon too!
We are working to program an arcade racing game in Kudo. We have looked at the features of some classic racing games and will think carefully about how to make our games challenging and interesting.
As part of their DT investigative work, Year 6 have been learning about structures and how to create the most stable structures using paper straws and paper tubes. They tested their teamwork skills during a competition to create the tallest most stable structure.
Our new class novel this half term is The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame – a different book to our previous reads this year, as it is a classic book written over a century ago.
After enjoying reading first two chapters, the children continued the story themselves to imagine Mr. Toad’s adventures.
World Book Day
Year 6 had a fantastic variety of costumes for World Book Day, including Miss Trunchbull, The Iron Man, Harry Potter, Dorothy, Gangsta Granny, Billionaire Boy, Winnie the Pooh and Sophie from the BFG.
Sports Hall Athletics Competition
Year 5 and 6 have taken part in the Primary Sports Hall Athletics competition. The pupils completed a mixture of track and field events, including relays, chest push, speed bounce and standing long jump.
Their results will be compared to the 10 other Durham Primary Schools taking part.
Designing and Making Pizzas
For their DT topic this half term, Year 6 have been designing and making pizzas following a brief. Their work included considering different pizza bases and their nutritional value, as well as suitable shapes and toppings for a pizza for adults to eat at a celebration. Herbs and spices were used in the pizza base and sauce for further depth of flavour. They thoroughly enjoyed making the pizzas and couldn’t wait to eat them, even though there may have been a bit too much chilli in one of the bases!

“A letter home”
We have been working very hard in our English lessons. We have been writing a letter from an evacuee back home to their parents. We worked hard to include emotions and different types of sentences in our writing. Finally, we used green screen to perform our letters. You can watch our performances here.
Weardale Adventure Centre
Year 6 had a great day completing outdoor and adventurous activities at Weardale House. They completed canoeing – learning basic skills and playing games – and also did high ropes activities, including “Leap of Faith” and “Jacob’s ladder”. The children pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and impressed with their teamwork and resilience.
