Have a look at what we’ve been learning…

Year 1 Socially Distanced Sports Day

Year 1 enjoyed a socially distanced sports day this week on the school field.  It was a little different to usual but everyone had a great time.  The children competed in their bubbles and cheered each other on.  At the end everyone was awarded with a special medal and an ice pop to cool down.

Big Bad Wolf

As part of their English work on The Three Little Pigs, the Year 1 children wrote a letter from Mr Wolf to the pigs to apologise for his bad behaviour. The children then used the iPads to make a morfo of Mr Wolf then performed their letters.  You can watch their videos by clicking here.

World Book Day – Sharing Stories

The children in Year 1 and Year 2 brought their favourite books into school for World Book Day.   They spent some time in the afternoon listening to each other read and then had a chat about what their favourite book was about and why.  It was lovely to hear the expression that was being used and the discussions that were taking place.

Three Little Pigs

Year 1 have been doing lots of work on traditional tales. This week we are working on The Three Little Pigs. We read the story then used Puppet Pals to retell the story in our own words. We tried to use lots of story-telling language.  You can watch our videos here.

Locomotion Museum

Year 1 visited Locomotion museum in Shildon as part of their current history work. They looked at artefacts and pictures to find out about the life of George Stephenson. They also did an acting and art activity. The children had great fun exploring the exhibits in the museum and looking at how trains have changed over the last 200 years.

KS1 Christmas Party

KS1 had a fantastic time at their Christmas party.  After they did the conga into the hall they had lots of fun playing party games and danced till their feet hurt.  Well done to Teddy and Chester who won the pass the parcel too…..it was very tense!  When the classes returned to their classroom they were surprised to see that Santa Claus had paid us a visit – as he left big snowy footprints on the carpet and a lovely present for each and every one of us.

Dear Santa

The Year 1 children have been busy writing letters to Santa. We walked to the village and posted them so hopefully we will get a reply.

We used Spark Video to make slideshows and record the children performing their Santa letters. We hope you enjoy watching them.  Click here to view them.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

In Year 1 we have been reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  The children know the story really well so we used the Puppet Pals app to make puppet shows to retell the story.  You can watch our videos by clicking here.

Visit to a church

On Thursday, Year 1 visited the Parish church.  Francine showed us some special features of the church like the font, the altar, the lectern and the pulpit.  We looked at the stain glass windows and talked about some of the stories they tell us.
