We had a visit from two scientists from the University of Durham on Friday. They brought along a large inflatable planetarium. The children had to crawl through a tunnel to get inside. Once inside it was very dark, this was so they could see the stars on the roof. The children learned how stars are born and where to find them in the sky. Among the constellations, they spotted ‘The Great Bear’, ‘The North Star’ and ‘The Seven Sisters’ – all of which can be seen in the skies in Wolsingham. The children found out that it is easier to see stars in our village because there aren’t so many bright street lights around.
