Merry Christmas Everyone!

18th December 2020 By lauracoote

What a fantastic last week. Thank you to the kitchen staff for making such a lovely Christmas dinner last Friday which kick started our week of festive activities.

All the children have had a brilliant time this week. They’ve had parties, participated in a virtual pantomime and managed to join in our annual tradition of Twelve Days of Christmas in a socially distanced assembly! Thank you to staff members for organising all activities. Photos of the week can be found on our class pages on the website as well as a special Christmas Mannequin Challenge from the Year 5s!

The children have worked so hard this term and we hope you all have a relaxing and a safe break and we’ll see you back in school on 5th January 2021.
Finally, our staff members would just like to send you a special message.  Click here to watch it!

We’re getting very close to the end of term and so next week it’s Christmas Party week!

All children should come to school on the morning of the day of their party in their party clothes. Please ensure that your child has sensible shoes and a warm coat as they will still be required to play outside during the day. Parents are not required to send party food and the children will be provided with a drink and a snack.

This year, all classes will have a separate party.

The dates are as follows:
Nursery & Reception – Monday 14th December am / pm
Year 3 / 4 – Tuesday 15th December am / pm
Year 1 / 2 – Wednesday 16th December am / pm

Christmas Jumper Day

9th December 2020 By lauracoote

Don’t forget that Friday 11th December isn’t just our Christmas lunch day, but also Christmas jumper day. Children are invited to come to school in a Christmas jumper. This year we will be supporting Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day.
A collection box will be situated in each classroom and any donations towards this cause will be gratefully received.
Our Christmas post boxes are also available for any children wishing to send Christmas cards. To enable children to post their cards in the correct post box, please ensure that they have the child’s name and year group clearly written on the front of the envelope. Post boxes will be emptied on Monday mornings following a quarantine period over the weekend.

Christmas Trail 2020

9th December 2020 By lauracoote

Wolsingham Churches Together

The trail is different this year, instead of searching for clues around the shops, children will need to search for 15 picture clues on notice boards and windows around the centre of Wolsingham. The theme this year is gifts. Just as the Wise Men brought gifts for Jesus, we too give gifts, we like to receive gifts, as we celebrate the birthday of Jesus. There is a song called ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. A gift of a partridge in a pear tree was given on Christmas Day and on Boxing Day, that same gift plus another gift and so it continues over the twelve days. What are these gifts and where are they? The trail clues have been assigned to Seesaw this morning. All the children have to do is to find the street and look for the picture clue, write the name of the gift next to the street and then upload their answers on Seesaw. This year instead of prizes being awarded at the Christingle service, every child who completes the trail and uploads it to Seesaw will receive 50 points for their team and KS2 children have the option of winning another 100 points by answering the question at the bottom of the trail. Entries must be returned by Wednesday 18th December.

KS2 Space Day

23rd October 2020 By lauracoote

KS2 have had a lovely day filled with exciting space activities for their Space Day. Activities included using Jaffa cakes to understand the phases of the moon in Year 3; Year 4 investigated how far they could make their rockets fly; Year 5 created pop up cards which were decorated with facts about the sun and did a workout fit for an astronaut whilst Year 6 watched a seminar from Buzz Aldrin’s son about his own experiences as a child of a famous astronaut.

If you are interested in what they have been learning, or would like to see a range of space related activities and talks, please click here.

Our children also enjoyed watching a live stream from the International Space Station which can be watched on YouTube by clicking here.

Watch out for photographs of the day which will be uploaded soon.

Collage ‘Dancing Figures’

17th March 2020 By lauracoote

Year 4 – Collage ‘Dancing Figures’

As part of Year 4’s Art lessons, they have been learning about the famous artist ‘Henri Matisse’. The children have researched his work and his life to find out why he created his wonderful masterpieces.

Matisse became ill, ended up in a wheelchair, and was unable to paint in style he was use to, so he came up with a new style and called it ‘Painting with Scissor’. The children were challenged to create their own art piece based on the same style and used scissors, a variety of warm and cool colours to create a collage with a focus on dancing figures.

Mrs Meek sent Megan Coyle an email with all the children work and she has now replied and put some of the children’s work on her blog.
